Star Pets January 2012 - biennial review

03 January 2012

It's two years since our last Star Pet review so this month we've decided to take a look back over the twelve Star Pets of 2011 and update you on the outcomes of the cases…. some with happy endings, others with sad outcomes.

January

Mackie made a full recovery from his dental treatment and is owners were doing a good job at keeping his mouth in perfect condition.

February

Michael (our veterinary surgeon Will's dog) recovered well from his lump removal and although a few more small fatty lumps have since reappeared he is doing well and still managing his 4 mile walk to work each morning!

March

Minnie made a full recovery from her fracture repair and it has been decided to leave the pins in her leg unless they cause problems in the future.

April

Sally our April star pet made a good recovery from having her left stifle stabilised and she has since then had her right stifle operated on.

May

Wolfy was seen back at the practice on several occasions after his star pet appearance and a final operation was performed to correct his abnormal eyelid, which was deformed as a result of the scar tissue from his abscess.

June

Ronnie is currently doing well on continued urinary diet and so far has not showed any signs of urinary crystals or further urinary problems, fingers crossed!

July

Toby the German Wire Haired Pointer, made a full and uneventful recovery from his foreign body operation and is now back to his usual bouncy self!

August

Elite made a good recovery after her pyometra operation. She is currently doing well.

September

Gizmo the cat with a traumatized paw made a slow but eventually good recovery. He has since been back to the practice for further treatment to another wound on the same foot which occurred once he was allowed outside; since then his owners have decided to keep him indoors and out of trouble!!

October

Buffy the cat made a full recovery from having her patellae stabilized. She is now walking a lot better and her owners are gradually allowing her to exercise more.

November

Hetty the asthmatic cat is continuing to improve. Her owner has been successful in using an inhaler as part of her treatment but we will see how she does when summer arrives!

December

It was a sad time in December to say goodbye to Buddie the diabetic dog but we are pleased to report his owners have since had a new puppy to keep his friend Poppy company - she was missing him.
